Renewable-energy company Anthem’s Northern Cluster reached a key construction milestone this week, with the final turbine foundation being poured at the Ishwati Emoyeni Wind Farm.

All 96 turbine foundations for the Northern Cluster projects have now been cast.

Anthem’s Northern Cluster comprises three 140 MW wind farms, located in the vicinity of Murraysburg in the Western Cape.

Each of the three wind farms comprise 32 Vestas V163-4.5 MW wind turbines, with a hub height of 96 m and a rotor diameter of 163 m.

Raubex Infra is responsible for construction of the civil and electrical balance-of-plant, including the turbine foundations, as well as the distribution grid connection works.

“Completion of the ninety-sixth turbine foundation today is a significant achievement for Anthem and the Raubex Infra teams. A great many people have contributed – from steel fixers to concrete truck drivers, pump operators and the concrete placing team to health and safety managers to foremen and engineers – the list goes on and on,” Anthem construction project manager and asset management head Sam Cook says.

“Today’s pour commenced shortly after midnight and was completed late this afternoon – all in a day’s work for our hard-working construction teams,” he acclaims.

With all foundations now cast, wind turbine installation will continue and testing will be undertaken in 2026, with full commercial operation expected from the fourth quarter of 2026.
